A Jersey firm of independent financial advisors, HBFS, has purchased a defibrillator that will be situated in their reception in Salisbury House on Union Street.

In addition to this, two members of staff have been trained to use the defibrillator, Leanna-Lee De Abreu and Kimberley White who is also a qualified first aider.

Michael Barney, HBFS Managing Director & Partner, said: “Having reached 1,000 active investment clients we wanted to mark this important milestone with an initiative that offers protection for anyone in need. We are delighted to join a growing network of defibrillators in Jersey that has the potential to save lives. The support of our existing and new clients has made this possible, so a huge thanks to them all.”

The funding of the defibrillator completes a year of community action by HBFS that has seen them:

  • sponsor JAAR’s Recipe and Walks Book
  • Created a Poster Campaign (Easy Donation) in aid of Jersey Children’s Charity
  • run a Charity Cake Sale in aid of Jersey Children’s Charity
  • run a Christmas Stall in aid of Philip’s Footprints
  • provide funds for Jersey Cancer Relief

Commenting on the firm’s charitable activity in 2021, Michael wants to encourage all Jersey businesses to continue supporting community projects and ongoing charity funding: “These past two years have been challenging for our team as they have for everyone, including the Island’s many charities. Despite this we have all been keen to support good causes that themselves support the wider community.

“Sometimes a single action, such as our purchase of the defibrillator can make a specific, tangible difference. However, the ongoing funding of our charitable community can get overlooked at a time when it needs us most. As our business grows so will our charitable contributions to help meet this need.”
