Jersey Finance is encouraging primary school students from across the island to get creative and take part in a new art competition that aims to celebrate the Island’s local plants, wildlife and habitats.
The Island Inspirations Junior Art Competition, which is launched in conjunction with EcoActive, forms part of Jersey Finance’s programme of activities in the build up to its inaugural Sustainable Finance Summit, set to take place from 10 to 14 March.
Through the initiative, which has been designed to complement the curriculum, pupils will be asked to create a piece of A4 artwork celebrating any aspect of Jersey’s diverse natural landscape, including plants, animals and habitats.
Prizes will include vouchers for either Jersey Zoo or Collins Stationers of £100 for first prize, £50 for second prize and £20 for third prize, awarded in each of three age categories – Reception to Year 2, Years 3 to 4, and Years 5 to 6 – with winners being assessed by a panel of judges, including representatives from Jersey Finance, and EcoActive.
Shortlisted entries will also be displayed at The Freedom Centre during the Sustainable Finance Summit in March, with pupils and parents being given an opportunity to visit the EcoArt Exhibition and see their work on display. Selected entries will also be featured on the Jersey Finance website.
The deadline for entries is 14 th February.
Commenting on the competition, Amy Bryant (pictured), Deputy CEO, Jersey Finance, said: “We are committed to ensuring Jersey’s finance industry plays a positive and meaningful part in shaping a more sustainable future, both at home and around the world. As we continue to strive to influence global efforts to tackle climate change and promote sustainability, we are keen to hear from and involve the younger generation, whose views and perspectives are so important.
“We hope that as many budding young artists as possible will take this opportunity to celebrate Jersey’s unique natural environment and our collective commitment to building a sustainable future for us all.
“We’d like to thank the team at EcoActive for their guidance and partnership in bringing this exciting initiative to life.”
