Jersey-based Sleep Well Milk has been admitted as members of the prestigious Guild of Fine Foods, one of the leading industry groups upholding excellence in fine food and drinks production.
Founded in 1995, the Guild supports and promotes speciality food producers and the independent delis, farm shops and food halls that sustain them. Backed by 1,300 members, it runs the influential Great Taste and World Cheese Awards.
Sleep Well Milk was created in September 2016 by local entrepreneurs Allan and Sam Watts. Their first product, a vanilla flavoured bedtime milk drink was launched at the Speciality and Fine Food Fair in London in September 2017.
The drink is sold online, in local shops and at Fortnum and Mason in London. The company is in the final stages of signing listings with a number of leading high street names in the UK and is negotiating export deals with Dubai, China, Hong Long and South Korea.
Sleep Well is made by Jersey Dairy using whole milk from local herds, honey and valerian and is sold as a long-life product.
Since launch Sleep Well has attracted coverage in a number of leading UK magazines and newspapers including the Mail on Sunday, Sunday Telegraph Balance and Country Living, as well as trade publications such as The Grocer and Hotel and Caterer. Such has been the interest in the product, which is totally unique in the food and drink sector, that it has also been reported on radio stations and online news outlets in the United States.
Next week Sleep Well will be at Hotelympia, the biggest trade show for the hospitality and on-board sector, held every two years at Excel in London and already a number of product buyers have made appointments to meet the company.
Sleep Well Director Allan Watts said: “This is another milestone in what has been an astonishing year for our company, from launching in London six months ago to listing at Fortnum and Mason by Christmas and the huge support we have received from local stores. Becoming members of the Guild is important because it underlines our commitment to quality and innovation. It also helps present our product to the thousands of independent food and drink outlets across the UK.”
