SGB Hire won the Jersey Employment Trust’s top employer award at its 20th anniversary conference.
The event, held at the L’Horizon Hotel on 26th April, celebrated 20 years of helping people with a disability or long-term health condition secure and sustain employment.
It was a time to celebrate the charity’s work over 20 years and thank employers and agencies who work with them. Keynote speaker was Frank Gardner OBE, the BBC’s Security Correspondent who suffered life-changing injuries after being shot in Saudi Arabia in 2004.
SGB Hire have been working with JET since 2020, when they offered a mock interview for seven clients and a rolling programme of six-week placements. Two clients were offered full-time permanent contracts and have become valued members of the team.
The judging panel said that SGB were a great example of what can be achieved when there is buy-in at the top of an organisation and the business understood exactly where they could add value to JET clients while at the same time achieving their own goals.
SGB general manager Philip Le Claire said: “The whole team is absolutely chuffed to have been given this incredibly prestigious acknowledgment in the 2022 JET awards.
“SGB takes its responsibility to the communities that we live in incredibly seriously and we work hard to ensure that we play our part. However, working with JET has not required anything onerous or particularly difficult – in fact, working with JET has made our lives easier! We have been blessed with meeting a number of individuals, all of whom brought something unique and wonderful to the party, and have ended up with two full-time, permanent members of staff that might otherwise not have been given the opportunity.
“If any business or employer in Jersey is not working with the Jersey Employment Trust, you seriously need to take a look at yourselves as you are missing out big time!”
