Jersey Electricity customers can now benefit from the launch of the Company’s new app, ‘My JE’, which gives them more data on their usage, helping them to track and reduce consumption, and budget for electricity before the bill arrives.
The innovative app was developed by JE’s own in-house billing provider JENDEV in partnership with Eliq, a leading Swedish provider of energy insights and mobile apps for utility companies.
The My JE app, which is presently in ‘beta’ form, shows customers how much electricity they are using in cash as well as kWhs (units), helping them to budget day by day or week by week. The app also allows customers to:
- View bills, transactions and account balances
- Set up a profile to compare electricity usage with other similar properties
- Set a weekly or monthly consumption target with notifications to help control costs
Werner Bornman, JE’s Head of Digital Technology said: “Power utilities are increasingly becoming digital businesses, offering energy intelligence as a service and Jersey Electricity is at the forefront of this transformation. My JE is presently in beta form and is in the first of several phases of its expected development. The next step is to develop the app’s functionality to embrace multi-meter customers, including those taking advantage of our Buy Back Tariff, as well as our three phase customers.
“My JE has been made possible by our Island-wide roll-out of Smart-Meters, a project which has itself been completed well ahead of the UK, and now enables us to relay the consumption data they collect back to customers. In this way, we hope to help customers to better
understand their usage and enable them to manage their electricity consumption more effectively and cut costs. We welcome feedback and ideas for further development from customers who can provide this from within the app.”
JE CEO Chris Ambler said: “Our vision is to inspire a zero-carbon future. Energy efficiency and technology will have a big part to play on this journey. We are already increasing our focus ‘beyond the meter’ and this is one of several projects that shows how we are putting
customers at the heart of the energy system. We see related technologies such as demand side management and smart home controls, vehicle-to-grid charging (V2G), renewable distributed generation and energy storage – all of which we’re currently trialling – becoming
ever more widespread and we see digital technology a key enabler.”
Eliq’s founder and CEO Hakan Ludvigson said: “Digital tools underpinned by analytics and behavioural science have an impact not only by creating transparency, customer satisfaction and loyalty, but also by reducing the size of the energy bill. We have been delighted to
support Jersey Electricity with this important project that uses the most modern new smart metering infrastructure and gives real benefit to customers.”
