Jersey could have its own testing site for Coronavirus by the end of April according to the island’s Medical Director.
At the moment tests are sent to be processed in the UK because Jersey does not have the facilities. Sending the tests to the UK to be processed takes at least 48 hours.
Officials say testing on island would speed up the process and help them to manage how people are treated.
Patrick Armstrong, Jersey’s Medical Director, said: “Everybody wants to be able to be able to do those tests. I know that there is a plan for it. We’re hoping and I’m cautious about giving a time scale on this but we’re hoping it might be within the next month or so.
“We are working every day to get that testing on island because it will make such a difference to the way we manage people in terms of self isolation, how we manage flow through the hospital. Once we know who has the virus and who hasn’t it does make it easier.”
