Jersey Community Foundation distributes £45,000 to lifeline services and food banks

Salvation Army, Grace Trust and St Vincent de Paul have all been recipients of a £10,000 grant by Jersey Community Foundation, this follows a £15,000 grant  awarded to Community Savings earlier this summer.

All four charitable organisations are a lifeline to the poorest in our community and have noted a marked increase in their services since Covid and amidst the  cost-of-living crisis.

Earlier this year, Community Savings reported requests for their services had doubled from January – June compared to previous years.

Reacting to this growing demand, the grants will go towards emergency supplies for people in urgent need, helping fund electricity vouchers, hygiene packs,  baby products, and additional items for the food banks. The funds will also support emergency one-off costs and special projects, such as Grace Trust’s weekly  community Saturday lunch gatherings.

Vini Jones, General Manager at Grace Trust said: “This £10,000 grant will go entirely toward our weekly Saturday lunch, held at St Pauls Church. This grant will  see our longest running project continue to provide a two-course meal for those in need and for those feeling lonely or isolated within our community.

“We worked with the JCF to identify this area of need and we are delighted to channel the grant towards this project – it is probably the biggest grant we’ve ever  received for this weekly lunch that brings our community together.”

Anna Terry, CEO of the Jersey Community Foundation explains: “The Ann Alice Rayner Fund, of which these charities have recently benefited from, was set
up to provide ‘pecuniary relief to needy persons residing in Jersey.’ At JCF we work in partnership with organisations that have specialist knowledge and  experience within the community to ensure that funding is spent wisely and consciously. We have no doubt that each of these worthy recipients will see the  funds allocated where they are needed most.”

The next closing date for The Ann Alice Rayner Fund is Sunday 20th November 2022. Funding criteria is in place, but the JCF encourages enquiries to scope out projects for possible funding with our grants team.

Email the Jersey Community Foundation if you have any questions, or visit their website to apply.
