The Jersey Community Foundation has confirmed a grant to Jersey Trees for Life, with funds from the Channel Islands Lottery.
The grant will enable Jersey Trees for Life to carry out an extensive tree mapping project at Val de la Mare Arboretum.
The project aim is to identify and catalogue all trees in the arboretum’s ten collections and make the information openly available by means of an interactive online map. Doing so will provide vital data for future onsite conservation work as well as informing the wider community. The map will include location coordinates, photos and further details including conservation status for all its trees.
Having recently completed a trial run in the arboretum’s Chinese Collection, the project will start in earnest by summer. This funding enables the charity to work with the same specialist to produce the map and supporting information.

She continued: “Having such detailed information and being able to share it is something we’ve wanted for a long time, especially given the community’s love of trees. The trial was a huge success and we’re looking forward to replicating that across the arboretum.”
