The Jersey Chamber of Commerce has welcomed the findings and recommendations of The Work Permit Holder Welfare Review Panel, chaired by Deputy Beatriz Porée.
The Chamber acknowledges the importance of continually improving the welfare and support systems for work permit holders in Jersey.
Deputy Beatriz Porée, Chair of the Panel, has stated: “As a Panel, we would first like to highlight that feedback from work permit holders about living and working in Jersey is generally very positive. We believe that this reflects the many good employers on-Island. However, the Panel also believes that there is room to improve the protections in place for work permit holders, and in particular, address the gaps in the communication of key information and guidance about living, working, and accessing support in Jersey.”
Murray Norton (pictured), CEO of the Jersey Chamber of Commerce, expressed his appreciation for the Panel efforts and the proactive role the Chamber played in engaging in their process. Alongside this engagement, Chamber has been actively involved in an Employment Standards Oversight Steering Group, directly involved the creation of a document aimed at providing essential information to work permit holders. The document when finalised will serve as a valuable resource, offering crucial guidance to work permit holders to help them better navigate their life and employment in Jersey.
Murray commented: “We are committed to ensuring that work permit holders in Jersey receive the support and information they need to thrive in our community. The engagement with the Panel and also with the Government led Employment Standards Oversight Steering Group is a testament to the shared commitment from Chamber, together with employers, Government and the States Assembly to enhancing the welfare of work permit holders and maintaining Jersey’s reputation as a welcoming and supportive place for international talent.”
