Jersey’s States Employment Board has extended the contract of the Chair of the Jersey Appointments Commission (JAC) by six months.
This extension – from 31st March 2022 to 30th September 2022 – will allow the Right Honourable Dame Janet Paraskeva (pictured) to continue in her role until a successor can be appointed.
A consultation proposing that the JAC is replaced by a new body that is independent from Government was undertaken in January and February 2022. This proposal was in response to recommendations from the Comptroller and Auditor General in 2019.
Recruitment for a new Chair of JAC is due to start shortly and is expected to focus on local candidates in the first instance.
The extension of Dame Janet Paraskeva’s appointment will allow for the JAC to continue to operate in its current form whilst proposals are finalised and a new Chair is recruited.
Dame Janet Paraskeva was appointed as Chair of the Jersey Appointments Commission (JAC) in September 2014 by the Chief Minister following a proposition to the States Assembly. Re-appointment was confirmed by a Ministerial Decision until 23rd September 2021 and an initial extension was approved by Ministerial Decision, which expires on 31st March 2022.
