A fresh look and feel for local youth homeless charity

In the heart of Jersey, where waves meet the shores and communities intertwine, there lies a beacon of hope that has been silently transforming lives since 1961.

JAYF (Jersey Association for Youth & Friendship) has been a stronghold of compassion, providing safe and secure accommodation for young individuals experiencing homelessness.

As JAYF strides into a new era, the charity calls for a visionary leader, a CEO who can navigate the charity toward a future free from youth homelessness.

Homelessness in Jersey

Although rough sleeping is the most visible form of homelessness, far more people experience ‘hidden homelessness’. Pushed to the brink, these are people sleeping on the sofas of family and friends, living in cars and squats or other temporary accommodation with no stability or security. The latest published data on homelessness in Jersey (Q3 2023) showed that 24% of those experiencing homelessness were under the age of 25. The reasons for seeking accommodation ranged from domestic abuse, living in unsafe and insecure housing, eviction or relationship breakdown.

Proactive support and skill development

JAYF goes beyond beds – it’s about empowering youth to escape homelessness. They proactively tackle complex barriers, equipping young people with skills for independent living. This could range from helping manage personal care, support upper education applications, job applications, being a listening ear or an advocate when dealing with authorities. With five hostels providing supervised and subsidised accommodations of furnished bedsit or small studio type accommodation for 29 young adults, JAYF builds a foundation for a future where every young person can thrive and belong.

New leadership, new horizons

Recently, JAYF welcomed a new Chair, Deputy Hilary Jeune, and along with the new appointments of experienced committee members, this has injected fresh perspectives and experiences into JAYF’s collective journey. Now, the spotlight is on the search for a dynamic CEO who shares their passion for making a difference.

Join us in the journey

If you are someone with a burning desire to make a tangible impact, to be the catalyst for change, then JAYF would like to hear from you. They are in search of a CEO who not only envisions a world without youth homelessness but has the strategic acumen to make that vision a reality. Join JAYF in the noble mission of building a future where every young person, regardless of their circumstances, can thrive, contribute, and belong.

Apply today – be the change

JAYF is not just a charity; it is a movement, a force for positive change. If you have the passion, the vision, and the leadership skills to drive the successful future of this vital organisation, then reach out apply to be part of the change our community needs.
