Islands Insurance has collaborated with Avoca Group to help support local contractors as they repair the damage caused by Storm Ciaran.
Storm Ciaran caused significant damage in one night, including a tornado that ripped a path through the east of Jersey. The volume of claims and the consequent impact to the local community has driven an unprecedented demand on local construction resources, who are doing their best to help those still needing repairs to their homes and businesses.
As small islands with limited resources, the pressure on contractors in Jersey has been immense and inevitably some people have had to wait longer than usual for repairs to be carried out. Islands is therefore collaborating with Avoca Group, one of the largest property management firms in the South West of England, to alleviate some of that pressure. Avoca Claims Management, based in Dorchester, is an experienced insurance claims management business and part of the larger Avoca Property Group of companies.
Tim Brangwyn (pictured), Managing Director of Islands said: “The volume of insurance claims received, following that one night, is equivalent to 33% of what would usually be seen in one year. We are acutely aware of the stress and anguish some of our customers are feeling because of the damage caused by Storm Ciaran.
“While we are doing all we can to assess and approve claims as quickly as possible, demand is outstripping available supply of labour across the islands to carry out the repairs once approved, which is leading to some delays in putting things right. That’s why we are trying to alleviate the pressure and keep things moving at an acceptable pace. This is not about supplanting local suppliers, rather it is about giving them and Islanders much needed support.”
Nick Illes, Managing Director of Avoca Claims Management said: “Storm Ciaran was devastating, and the islands have borne the brunt of the damage and destruction. We work with several of the UK’s largest insurance and warranty firms in these situations and have an excellent track record for quality of workmanship and service. Where possible or necessary we will work with other local contractors and suppliers to get the work, where claims have been approved, completed swiftly and efficiently.”
