On 7 December 2021, the Medical Specialist Group (MSG) became aware of a cyber incident affecting their email system, resulting in a number of patients and external contacts to receive emails purporting to be from the MSG.
Thorough investigations into what happened have allowed the MSG to determine those contacts who need to be informed about an impact on their data. MSG chief executive, Jon Buckland, has notified these individuals accordingly.
Jon Buckland (pictured), Chief Executive of the Medical Specialist Group, said: “I would like to offer our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience or concern this incident has caused.
“We take cyber security and data protection incredibly seriously and following the incident in December, we immediately re-secured our systems and began working with IT forensic specialists to investigate the incident.
“Additionally, we continue to work with the police and the Information Security Officer of the States of Guernsey, doing all we can to comply with our regulatory responsibilities and support the apprehension of criminals behind this incident. This may, unfortunately, be the only way that we can prevent further emails being sent.
“As the police investigation continues, we hope to be able to determine those behind the incident and inhibit any further criminal activity.”
