The Office of the Data Protection Authority has announced that its Commissioner Emma Martins has been given the Award for Achievement at the PICCASO Privacy Awards Europe.
It recognises her distinguished career and the huge contribution she has made to data protection in the Channel Islands and beyond. She won the award jointly with Robert Bond from the Privacy Partnership Group.
Emma (pictured) has overseen the rapid evolution of data protection in the Channel Islands for the past two decades. She became Commissioner for both Jersey and Guernsey in 2011 when a pan-island regulatory office was set up, then stayed on in Guernsey when the offices separated at the start of 2018.
She has created a thriving, respected and robust regulatory office in the Bailiwick of Guernsey, dedicated to safeguarding the community’s personal data by minimising the harms caused by data mismanagement.
Emma’s tenure as Bailiwick Data Protection Commissioner ends in December when she will be replaced by Brent Homan who is currently Deputy Commissioner, Compliance of the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
