HSBC has appointed Ian Raymond as Head of Mortgage Distribution in Jersey, as the Bank continues to strengthen its mortgage platform for islanders and expatriate customers.

In his new role, Ian will take a lead on continuing to grow HSBC’s mortgage solutions business through the Bank’s local branches and networks and its Expat operation.

HSBC Mortgage Team

A mortgages expert with experience in both domestic and international markets, Ian re-joins HSBC having worked previously for the Bank in the UK in a number of roles. Most recently, he oversaw mortgage sales for Standard Chartered Bank in Jersey, whilst he has also worked across the residential and investment mortgages and credit space for major banking institutions across a career spanning more than 15 years. He is CeMAP qualified.

Ian joins a growing mortgages team in Jersey, some 25 people-strong, working across the local domestic and expatriate market with a combined experience of almost 100 years. With native Portuguese, Polish and English speakers in the team, the emphasis is on providing flexible, accessible and appropriate mortgage advice and solutions to a broad cross-section of the community. This includes offering flexible mortgages appointments remotely and increasingly out of working hours and offering customers the option to manage their mortgage documentation online.

Ian’s appointment follows the recent announcement that HSBC has reintroduced a 95% loan-to-value residential mortgage product across the Channel Islands and Isle of Man, increased the lending limits for both its 90% and 95% mortgages and introduced improved rates across its residential mortgage range. The moves form part of a drive to enhance the Bank’s mortgage proposition, in particular for supporting first time buyers in the islands.

Tania Sobey, Head of Retail Distribution, HSBC, Channel Islands and Isle of Man, commented: “Our aim is to continue to play a key part in helping islanders to achieve their aspirations of homeownership, whether it’s their first property, upsizing to accommodate a growing family or looking for a property to suit their lifestyle. Our enhanced mortgage proposition is focused on making the whole mortgage application process easier, through technology and a growing team of highly experienced, flexible, friendly experts.

“I’m delighted to welcome Ian to the team. With his considerable experience of the mortgage market, he will be pivotal in leading our team in Jersey and cementing HSBC’s reputation as a leading mortgage solutions provider.”
Ian added: “I’m extremely excited to be joining such a diverse and driven team. Our absolute focus is on making it as easy as possible for customers to access mortgage solutions that are right for them and with our range of mortgage products, we’re in a strong position to help Islanders with their homeownership ambitions.”
