Cleland & Co is celebrating the success of Manon Segers, who has qualified with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) six years after joining Cleland & Co as a school leaver.
Manon joined the Guernsey based accountancy firm in 2015 after completing her A Levels. She achieved her CAT qualification in 2018 and subsequently passed her ACCA exams in 2021, passing all exams on the first attempt. She is now building her own client portfolio and has recently played a role in recruiting trainee accountants.
Working for an independent accountancy practice meant that Manon benefited from taking responsibility for high-profile clients early on and consolidated her studies alongside practical, hands-on work.
“Manon has been on a real journey since starting her career at Cleland & Co,” explained Managing Director Vicki Webster. “We’re incredibly proud of the young professional she has become in the six years she’s been with us. From starting out as a school leaver to soon taking on sole responsibility for her own portfolio of clients.
“When we recruit we are looking for people who are going to be a good fit for the team, as well as having the skills to take on the variety of work that we do for our clients. Manon absolutely met our criteria and has also grown into a brilliant all-rounder, with interpersonal, time management and advisory skills alongside the academic knowledge needed to succeed in our industry.”
Cleland & Co is a local independent practice which has made a series of promotions and appointments over the last few years to strengthen its senior team and establish its future direction.
“Training to be an accountant isn’t easy, especially alongside a day job, but it provides key skills that we value at Cleland & Co,” added Vicki. “Accountancy is evolving from what it used to be and we are committed to training up the next generation of accountants and providing them with the skills they, and the industry, need to thrive. Manon is a great example to anyone looking to join our profession.”
