Unsung heroes of hospitality were recognised and rewarded last week at the inaugural Jersey Hospitality Association Awards, branded the ‘H-oscars.’
The awards were presented by the Lieutenant-Governor, Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton, at a gala dinner at the Royal Yacht Hotel.
Winners included head housekeeper at the Mayfair Hotel Maria Ivone de Brito, who won the Love Wine Career Achievement Award for her 45 years of dedication and service to the Modern Group.
Patrick Burke of the Atlantic Hotel, meanwhile, won the Visit Jersey Island Ambassador Award, for his work in promoting Jersey around the world.
‘Feeling energised and ready to share our fantastic story, it made sense to introduce the
H-oscars to our end of season gala, which is itself a celebration of this great industry. The quality of submissions was outstanding, and I congratulate everyone who took part, including obviously the winners,’ said JHA chief executive officer Simon Soar.
‘There is a new momentum at the JHA. Yes, the industry faces challenges but we do so united and coordinated. Optimistic might be too strong a word but we certainly feel ready to stand up for ourselves and be heard. We have an engaged membership, our numbers are growing and we’re on a firm financial footing.’
