Helping Wings, the Charity giving disabled and disadvantaged people the opportunity to fly in light aircraft, are relaunching their Flying Bursary.
Last year’ programme had to be postponed due to the Covid epidemic.
The 2021 award, worth £2000, has been sponsored by Ports of Jersey with lessons being taught by Synergy Flight Training based at the Jersey Aero Club.
Eveline Hawkin, Chair of Helping Wings said: “When people return from their flying experience, the pleasure and boost to their confidence is clear for all to see. We are really excited to be able to give this opportunity to other islanders.”
Previous scholarship winner Emma (pictured) said “I loved my flying and really enjoyed being part of the Jersey Aero Club.” “I really hope to continue flying in the future.”
There is no medical examination for the scholarship and although medical opinion may be sought for safety reasons. To date, Helping Wings has been able to welcome students with a variety of disabilities and disadvantages. Although all applicants must be over 16 years old.
