Jersey’s Employment Forum currently has four vacancies and is looking for islanders with an interest in employment law to help shape its future direction on the island.
They say those applying not only need to have an interest in employment law, particularly in relation to the minimum wage, but should be able to work collaboratively in reaching a decision.
The Employment Forum acts as a non-political consultative body. It consults on the rate of minimum wage and other employment related issues as directed by the Social Security Minister. After views have been received in consultation the Forum then reports these to the minister along with recommendations on each issue.
The Forum is seeking members with the following experience:
Employee representative member: will need to have experience of employee issues in the workplace as an employee or as a member of a trade union or staff association.
Employer representative member: will need to have experience from an employer’s perspective, e.g. as a business owner, human resources professional or a member of an employer’s association or trade body.
Independent member: will need to have experience from an objective and independent perspective, e.g. with an understanding of employment law, economics, statistics or the labour market.
The Forum is also seeking a new chair to lead it, who will be responsible for consulting with the public and representative groups and making recommendations to the Minister for Social Security on employment legislation.
The Forum is an independent body with meetings held once per month on average. Members are appointed for a three-year term of office, which is renewable. These are unpaid, honorary positions.
The minister appoints members based on their interest in employment relations and their diversity of backgrounds with the Forum comprised of up to nine members.
The closing date for applications is Thursday 19 March. You can apply to be a member, the chair, or both positions in the same application. For more information visit www.gov.je or email [email protected]
