Progress on the regeneration work at Guernsey’s La Vallette bathing pools is continuing apace and the new facilities are on schedule to open in early 2022.

To date, the Vive La Vallette team has secured commitments of approximately £1 million towards the £1.5 million cost of the project. The charity has now launched an appeal to raise the remaining £500,000 through public, private and corporate donations.

David Warr, Chair of Vive La Vallette said: “We are delighted with the support and encouragement we have received to date and with the progress being made on the regeneration work at the bathing pools. We are now appealing to the broader community including businesses, grant-giving bodies and individuals to help secure the legacy of Guernsey’s historic pools.

“Our aim is to ensure that Vive La Vallette LBG, the Guernsey charity undertaking the project, can reinvest any trading surplus into the facilities, support community usage and improve the surrounding area.

“The charity’s vision is for the improved facilities to be a welcoming and vibrant destination for swimmers and other activities which help enrich islanders’ lives. Plans focus on promoting health and wellbeing, education and social interaction. The charity is also committed to celebrating the rich history of the bathing pools and promoting sustainability and protecting the local environment.”

Helen Bonner-Morgan, Community Lead for Vive La Vallette, said: “We hope that our vision will find wide support amongst our community to help us complete the restoration of this iconic site and maintain it as a long-term legacy asset for the enjoyment of islanders and visitors alike.

“Having been a part of the Vive la Vallette team from the outset in late 2018, I have watched and experienced our vision taking shape. I’m delighted and proud to have been charged with responsibility to lead the community facing elements of the project.

“The upgraded facilities will not just be a modern café and improved changing rooms but a thriving community hub and an enhancement to the wider La Vallette area. I am particularly pleased to be collaborating with local charities and other organisations to establish programmes and events which will help people stay active, stimulated and connected.

“Collaboration between the private sector, community groups and government has been part of our approach from the outset. We hope now that the wider community will want to get involved and support the completion of one of Guernsey’s favourite destinations.”
