Guernsey’s Resolution IT expands digital transformation department

With the digital transformation of businesses growing globally, Resolution IT has expanded and further strengthened its existing digital transformation department in response to an increased understanding of its importance and need by Guernsey businesses.

Pierre Jehan, Client Services Director who heads up the department said: “Digital connectivity and continuous advances in technology have opened up a world of global opportunities for Guernsey-based businesses. However, what it’s also done is highlight how some of them are not ready to meet that demand when competing against others who are far more technologically able.

“Traditional systems and processes have in the past served Guernsey businesses very well. However, with competition from abroad and locally, companies must now reassess how they have always managed their business.”

He continued: “The statistics make for compelling reading. A recent Microsoft report on digital transformation revealed 53% of UK businesses and IT leaders say their industries will face significant digital disruption within the next two years but crucially, 47% say they have no digital transformation strategy in place

“Digital transformation can help businesses save time and money but most importantly, it dramatically improves the customer experience. Products such as data modeling, client portals and online boardpacks are great examples of how businesses can start their  digital transformation journey. The whole point of digital transformation is that you are giving value to your customer because the customer experience should be at the heart of any digital strategy.”

Mr Jehan believes there needs to be a cultural change with some businesses in Guernsey, if they are to not only survive but prosper: “A successful digital transformation is only achieved in tandem with a cultural change and that starts from the top and works its way down through the business. Don’t forget, the workforce entering the market now, Generation Z, is the demographic most associated with technology. They’re looking to work for organisations that are modern and tech-savvy and if not, they’ll look elsewhere.

“There are many small to medium sized businesses here that haven’t taken that on board. It’s not about buying in to one or two pieces of technology and believing you’re done. It’s about looking at your business as a whole and seeing where technology can take it to the next level and provide the best possible experience for your customers. If that doesn’t happen, they’ll be off to the business that can offer it and the outlook for those Guernsey businesses will remain uncertain.”
