Guernsey Post is announcing changes to its two Town Post Offices, which will take place in the Spring of 2021. Working in partnership with the Channel Island Cooperative Society the changes are as follows:

  • The current Post Office in Smith Street will close at the end of the current lease in 2021.
  • The Post Office situated in the Co-op store in the Market will be extended, refurbished, and modernised to become the main Post Office in Town.
  • A new Post Office counter will open at the Co-op’s Royal Terrace store on Glategny Esplanade, which will be a postal hub for business services.

The Post Office situated in the Co-op store in the Market will offer the full suite of postal transactions and it will be extended and refurbished before opening in Spring 2021. The Post Office will offer all the traditional counter services as well as a parcel collection counter and a self-service postal kiosk.

Guernsey Post will also be opening a new business counter at the Co-op’s Royal Terrace store which will provide a range of business services, including PO boxes. The location of the Royal Terrace store for a Post Office has been chosen because it is conveniently located for many businesses.

Boley Smillie, Chief Executive of Guernsey Post said: “Having made the decision to move away from Smith Street and to improve the existing Market Post Office which already offers easy access to our services, we believed it was also important to provide convenient access to our services for businesses based at the Northern end of Town. The Co-op’s Royal Terrace store met all of our requirements.

“We are really pleased to be partnering with the Co-op on this initiative. The Co-op have proven experience in running Post Offices located within their stores and we believe the partnership will only deliver benefit for our customers”.

Iain Beresford, Chief Marketing & Membership Officer of the Cooperative Society said: “Guernsey Post Office and The Channel Islands Cooperative Society have a long standing relationship and we’re pleased to continue this with the re-modelling and expansion of our Market Street and Royal Terrace premises. We are looking forward to continuing to offer all of our members an enhanced offer through our store network, and look forward to welcoming existing customers of Smith Street to both of our locations where they will receive a warm welcome”.
