The Bailiwick of Guernsey is the second-best destination to visit in 2020, according to the Sunday Times.
In an article ranking the top 20 places to see in the new year, the national newspaper focused on the Bailiwick’s potential for flight-free island hopping – the major selling point of VisitGuernsey’s new tourism initiative, The Islands of Guernsey, which launched earlier this winter.
‘There’s no question that the Channel Islands should be among our 20 for 2020. We love their retro beach vibe, their ambitious foodie scene – 16 island restaurants are listed in the Good Food Guide – and a native eco-friendliness that ranges from locally sourced produce to a kindness to cyclists,’ said the article.
‘Jersey is the cosmopolitan one with, arguably, the best beaches, but we’re focusing on Guernsey because its new tourism initiative means you get four islands for the price of one.’
Describing Guernsey as a destination ‘previously famous for cream and the Wehrmacht occupation,’ the article praises its recent rebrand to include Alderney, Sark and Herm as part of the package. Guernsey is, it said, ‘presenting itself as 2020’s island-hopping alternative to the Aegean.’
Just beating Guernsey to the number one spot was Sri Lanka.
