The Guernsey International Business Association has appointed a new Chair and Deputy Chair.
Paul Sykes, Managing Director at Aon, has moved into the position of Chair having previously sat on the GIBA Executive Council as Deputy Chair.
Paul has worked with Aon for 30 years and is the former Chairman of the Insurance Industry Associations in both Gibraltar and Guernsey and a past president of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) in Guernsey.
Joanne Peacegood, Non-Executive Director and former Chair of the Guernsey Investment and Funds Association (GIFA), takes up the position of Deputy Chair. Jo will be the first woman in the Deputy Chair role and has been a GIBA Council Member for four years.
Prior to her role as a Non-Executive Director, Jo worked at PwC for over twenty years. Jo joined the GIFA Education Sub-Committee in 2012 and was part of the committee that launched the Academy Programme. Jo went on to chair that Committee, prior to being elected to the GIFA Executive and then going onto to chair the Association.
Paul Hodgson stands down after two years in the role of GIBA Chair and will remain as a Council Member.
GIBA has a membership consisting of the associations representing all the major financial institutions and professional firms on the island and, as such, is the representative body of the financial services industry in Guernsey. The sector employs around 6,000 professionals which is approaching 20% of Guernsey’s working population and accounts for nearly 40% of the Island’s GDP.
Paul Sykes said: “I look forward to taking on the role of GIBA Chair, which is a privilege and a responsibility, as we look ahead to the challenges and opportunities for Guernsey’s financial services industry.
“I am delighted to have Jo Peacegood as my Deputy Chair following her accomplished leadership of GIFA and we will be complemented by the considerable expertise and experience that our technical lead and permanent secretary, Carl Rosumek provides.
“As a leadership team we intend to engage closely with the association’s members and executive committee representatives and we look forward to representing them in continued collaboration with Government, the Regulator GFSC, Guernsey Finance et al; to advance the interests of Guernsey’s financial services industry.
“GIBA plays a vital role in promoting Guernsey as a premier international financial centre, and I am committed to building on the strong foundation that has been established to ensure that our industry remains competitive, innovative, and responsive to the needs of our clients and stakeholders.’
“On behalf of the GIBA Council, I would like to thank Paul Hodgson for his sagacious leadership over the last two years. The Council is grateful for the time and expertise he has shared.”
