The annual Guernsey Heritage Festival will extend throughout 2020 under the new banner of Heritage75.
In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Bailiwick’s liberation from occupation during World War II, Heritage75 will involve 75 heritage-themed events taking place between April and October, and VisitGuernsey wants the local community to get involved.
‘Heritage75 is a fantastic opportunity to engage with visitors by giving them a unique, enjoyable and thought-provoking holiday experience. We actively promote the festival via off-island PR, social media posts and website advertising, plus on-island media, and printed programmes distributed in key locations across the island,’ said a VisitGuernsey spokesperson.
‘If you are planning an event already or would like to consider staging an event that either has or can potentially adopt a local heritage, occupation or liberation theme, then we would like to hear from you as we would love you to be part of Heritage75.’
The programme will include talks, tastings, tours, exhibitions, workshops, guided walks, outdoor parties, special heritage site openings and foodie events. Many events will tie into the Occupation and Liberation, but VisitGuernsey is supporting the exploration of other areas including the life and works of Victor Hugo, folklore, the Victorian era, traditional food, literary works such as The Book of Ebenezer Le Page, traditional Guernsey jumpers and more.
