Guernsey Finance staff support Smile for Georgie Foundation with Val des Terres challenge

A team from Guernsey Finance has been taking part in the Val des Terres Everest Challenge to achieve three aims.

They set out to improve their fitness levels, stay connected while working from home and raise funds for the Smile for Georgie Foundation.

Team members have been spending their lunchbreaks scaling Le Val des Terres and challenged themselves to complete as many laps as possible in an hour. While some team members pledged simply to complete 20 or 30 laps during the month of January, others decided to take on all 115 ascents of the hill. Their fundraising target is £500, although since Channel Eye shared this story, this target has already been exceeded!

Head of Events Emily Wild, who organised the Guernsey Finance team to take part, and who knew Georgie, said: “We decided to take part in the challenge because we felt it’s a great way to not only improve fitness, but it’s also given us a purpose and a goal for January! It encouraged us to get outside and moving every day, all whilst raising funds for the Smile for Georgie Foundation, whose purpose and aims really make a difference to people in the Bailiwick of Guernsey.

“My sister and I were fortunate enough to summit Kilimanjaro with Georgie in 2013 in aid of Hope for a Child, and so together we are taking on all 115 laps individually in her memory – to do something positive and kind, which reflects the type of person Georgie was.”

Guernsey Finance Chief Executive Rupert Pleasant was delighted to see so many staff sign up for the challenge: “We are a small, close-knit team, so working from home during the past few weeks has meant we’ve only been able to get together via Teams. This challenge has provided everyone with an opportunity to get together and do something positive as a team. I’m enormously proud that they have done this and kicked off 2022 in such a positive way.”
