Guernsey Electricity has donated essential household appliances to a local, not-for-profit nursery as part of its community fund initiative.
Founded in 2016 the charity Bright Beginnings provides vital relationship attachment and development support to children, and their parents and care givers, from conception to four years of age.
The electrical appliances donated, including a fridge freezer, dishwasher, vacuum cleaner, and kettle among others, has enabled Bright Beginnings to upgrade the nursery’s kitchen.
Nursery and pre-school manager Karyn Le Marquand said: “The items donated have made a huge difference to the smooth running of the centre and the nursery. As numbers of families and children were increasing we really noticed that we needed more practical equipment, and Guernsey Electricity’s donation came at the perfect time. The fridge freezer, dishwasher and microwaves are in use in the nursery and the other items are used in the children’s centre.”
Clare Packman, communications advisor at Guernsey Electricity, said: “As a company we’re committed to connecting with, and supporting, the local community, so we are pleased that the electrical appliances will be used by the nursery to aid its invaluable work with many local children and families.”
Guernsey Electricity’s community fund initiative, set up in 2015 aims to support small projects that benefit parishioners in Vale and St Sampson. Previous funding has gone towards Vale Primary School’s outdoor learning space and upgrading St Mary & St Michael Catholic Primary School’s library.
