Guernsey Electricity is supporting health and wellbeing in the island by sponsoring a series of headline talks at the 2018 Guernsey Health Show this weekend.
During the family and community event on Sunday (14 January) at Les Beaucamps School, more than a dozen conference talks will be given by experts, including Marc Winn from The Dandelion Project.
The Health Show Conference is a new element of the annual event, which has grown since the first was held in January 2017.
Alan Bates, Guernsey Electricity’s chief executive officer, said: “Supporting health and wellbeing is vital to making Guernsey a better place to live, and it’s something we’re committed to for our employees and community.”
Guernsey Electricity will also have a stand at the show, manned by three employees helping lead the company’s environmental work. John Sexton, Head of Generation, will be joined by environmental specialist Alex Herschel and Head of Asset Stuart Blondel, who is heading the company’s electric vehicle and renewable strategies. They will be present to provide information to visitors and answer questions.
Alan said: “We have ambitious targets as an island to reduce emissions, and Guernsey Electricity is at the forefront of this important work – not least to ensure that all islanders benefit as the technology in the energy sector continues to develop.”
“As an environmental enabler, Guernsey Electricity is investing in the future from greener generators, such as solar panels at the power station to planning a direct link to France to import more low-carbon electricity. We also recognise the importance of engaging with the community, and the 2018 Guernsey Health Show is a great opportunity to do that.”
Tammy Lodge, the founder and organiser of the Guernsey Health Show, said: “As a not for profit organisation, our overall aim is to provide a platform to support businesses, with the aim of helping islanders to embrace a positive approach to health. This year, we are delighted with the increase in interest with 70 exhibitors, over 20 live demos, 14 conference speakers and the Raw Store café in the nutrition zone.”
This event’s main sponsor is Channel Insurance Brokers.
