Guernsey Electricity is providing an additional location for prepayment customers in the Vale and St Sampson’s to stay connected following the temporary closure of Iceland in Vale Avenue for refurbishment.
Braye Road Garage will now be available for residents in the north of the Island to top-up their prepayment cards through cash or card, seven days per week. These meters operate on a pay-as-you go basis and require periodic top-ups.
Steven Parks, Head of Customer Experience at Guernsey Electricity, said: “We recognise the need for a facility for our customers in the Vale and St Sampson, so are pleased to be working with the team at Braye Road Garage to ensure a local retailer is available to help them.”
For prepayment customers, Guernsey Electricity also offers ‘friendly times,’ which ensure the electricity supply stays on if the meter runs out of credit. These are from Monday to Thursday, 16:30-9am, Friday from 16:30 and all day on Saturday and Sunday until Monday 9am (bank holiday hours included). The times mean the meter remains active if credit runs out or if topping up is not possible.
Mr Parks added: “We recognise the growing demand from customers for an online facility and are currently evaluating how quickly it can be implemented.
“This review is part of our broader plan to roll out the next generation of smart meter, which is set to begin this year for commercial customers, with domestic customers to follow shortly after.”
