Guernsey Electricity is reassuring customers on pre-pay meters that they will remain connected during the festive period if they run out of credit.
The company has extended its protected times, known as ‘friendly times’ for pay-as-you-go meters to cover Christmas and over Near Year, which means Islanders will not see their electricity supply automatically turned off if they do not top up.
Steven Parks, head of customer experience at Guernsey Electricity, said: “As we all know, Christmas is a busy time and people may forget to put credit into their meters before the shops close on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
“With these dates and times in place, pay-as-you-go customers will still be able to cook their turkey on Christmas Day or serve up a festive New Year lunch, even if they don’t remember to top up in advance.”
The times being introduced are from 4:30pm Friday, 23rd December to 9am on Wednesday 28th December, then again from 4:30pm on Friday 30th December to 9am on Tuesday 03rd January.
Pre-payment meters are pay-as-you go and need to be topped up periodically. The times outlined ensure the meter stays on if credit runs out or it is also not possible to top up. Any debts are repaid when the customer tops up again.
Prepayment top ups can be purchased from the following locations:
- Iceland – Vale Avenue, Vale
- Checkers Xpress – Landes du Marche, Vale
- Checkers Xpress – Collings Road, St Peter Port
- Candie Cache – Cambridge Park Road, St Peter Port
- Co-operative – The Market, Market Square, St Peter Port
- Jeffreys Garage – St Martin
- Co-operative – Les Landes, Forest
