The Sustainable Business Initiative of the Guernsey Chamber of Commerce invites local businesses to participate in their pivotal annual Business Sustainability Survey.
Now in its fifth year, the survey aims to collect vital data on how businesses are integrating sustainability practices. This data not only helps benchmark local businesses against UK counterparts but also informs strategic government collaborations to enhance sustainability initiatives.
With sustainability at the forefront of global and local agendas, the survey seeks to uncover how businesses are adapting to meet these challenges.
Key trends from previous years show a promising increase in businesses adopting sustainability and ESG frameworks, climbing from 29% in 2020 to 45% in 2023. Despite this progress, the need for governmental action remains a hot topic among business leaders, with 63% in the last survey indicating that more efforts are required to boost environmental sustainability.
“This year, we’ve added a question to help pinpoint the top priorities businesses believe the government should focus on,” said Jennifer Strachan, Co-lead of SBI. “Understanding these priorities is essential for aligning our strategies and ensuring we support our businesses effectively.”
Rollo de Sausmarez, also a Co-lead at SBI, emphasized the importance of continuous feedback through the survey: “It’s important to conduct this survey every year so we can observe evolving trends and pinpoint areas that need attention. It’s crucial to see how committed Guernsey businesses are to minimizing their environmental impact.
“Although many respondents recognize the importance of environmental sustainability, fewer than half have implemented frameworks to effectively measure and manage these initiatives.
“This survey helps us to identify the barriers and develop programmes to support businesses looking to deepen their sustainability efforts”
The survey is now open and closes at the end of May – It only takes about 5 minutes to complete.
