Just in time for Christmas, Grow is launching a new shopping experience with ‘The Crafty Frog’, a retail training space that offers locally made gifts and valuable training opportunities for the Crew.
This initiative will help Crew members develop essential retail skills while interacting with customers in a supportive environment.
Located in the Facilities Centre, ‘The Crafty Frog ‘ is managed by Friends of Grow (FrOGs), with committee member Vanda Slann leading a team of dedicated volunteers working alongside Crew members.
The shop is supported by Creasey’s who are keen to extend their help by seconding members of their retail team to mentor the Crew. These sessions will provide hands-on advice and practical guidance on customer interaction. In time there will be opportunities for experienced Crew members to gain work experience at Creasey’s. ‘We are happy to support this excellent initiative and help to prepare individuals with additional needs for roles in the retail sector.
“Grow’s holistic approach blending communication, life skills and occupational training is invaluable”, said Peter Creasey, Managing Director of the Creasey’s Group.
Rick James, Chair of FrOGs, commented: “We are extremely grateful for Creasey’s ongoing support. Having their professional expertise available to our Crew is an incredible opportunity, Stephen Mewha, Creasey’s General Manager is providing much valued advice on layout and signage, emphasising the local identity.”
The shop features a wide selection of products, including handmade items crafted by the Grow Workshop such as bird boxes, bug hotels, and planters. Local artisans have also contributed to the range, with seaweed products, soaps, cards and prints, seaside charms, pottery, knitwear and candles available for purchase.
Potter Yvonne Burford who has some work including bowls and mugs in the shop said: “Providing retail training for the Crew opens up employment opportunities in another occupational sector which is why I am very keen to support this worthwhile initiative.”
Mr James added: “We hope customers will take the time to shop, explore, and enjoy everything Grow has to offer.”
