Recruitment company GR8 has partnered with Just Good Work, an innovative app that supports overseas jobseekers and gives them accurate information and advice about working abroad.
The free mobile app was developed so that candidates can find out about their rights and everything else they need to know before they accept work. Thanks to the partnership with GR8 it now includes information about living and working in Jersey. The app is also being developed to include information about living and working in Guernsey which will be available soon.
Em Holliday (pictured), Rest of the World Operations Director at GR8, said: “Among the key recommendations of the Work Permit Holder Welfare Review was that there should be more information on living and working in Jersey so that people can make informed decisions before they decide to come here and know what their rights and responsibilities are. They’ll be able to get information on visas, medical and contract information, but it also allows them to share their experiences, safely secure their documents and access help should they need it. What we really liked about the app was that it provided a solution that tackles exploitation by giving migrant workers the information they need to choose and plan their work journey. We also want to enhance our commitment to their welfare and will be offering access to a private healthcare service in 2025 to all work permit holders.”
The app was developed as a communication and education tool to tackle and prevent worker exploitation and is used by migrant workers around the world. It’s an innovative mobile platform that gives temporary workers critical information on their rights and responsibilities and provides guidance on how to access help if needed.
Quintin Lake, Managing Director of Just Good Work, added: “We built the app because we knew that some people working overseas were stuck in a cycle where they were working hard but were not earning enough to pay off debts. The recruitment process and debt bondage stand out as key areas of exploitation, extortion and deception. The app gives visibility to workers so they know what to expect before they accept a job, but it also lets employers see the process so they can understand the journey their staff are on. It means that employers and employees can know what’s ok and what’s not ok at every stage of the process. It’s like a companion that helps and guides people through their journey from looking for work to their eventual return home.”
