Global power, economic prosperity and international trade wars will all headline at the next IoD Jersey leaders lunch on Tuesday 26 February 2019.
Respected economic commentator Geoffrey Yu will be coming to the island to talk to an IoD audience of business leaders, politicians and entrepreneurs. Mr. Yu is an Executive Director and Head of the UK Investment Office and an Ultra High Net Worth Investment Strategist for UBS Wealth Management.
The lunch titled ‘Trade Wars – Seeing the Wood for the Trees’ will take place at Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa from 12 noon. Mr. Yu, who is a regular commentator on Bloomberg and CNBC, will discuss the gravity of the USA and China trade dispute, how it effects the balance of global economic power and the battle for tech dominance as a response to global megatrends such as population growth, urbanisation and the changing investment landscape.
Before joining UBS Wealth Management in January 2016, Mr. Yu was a senior G10 FX Strategist for UBS Investment Bank for a decade in London and Zurich. Born in Beijing, he spent most of his childhood in the UK before returning to China for secondary education. He holds a double BA in Mathematics and Economics from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, USA and an MSc in Finance from the London School of Economics.
Chris Clark, IoD Jersey Chairman, says:
“I am very grateful to Geoffrey for coming to the island to deliver this presentation to our IoD Jersey audience. It’s an incredible topic and one which I know will be well received by our financial services members and beyond.
“It’s very important in a small island that we don’t think on an insular level and instead look at the bigger picture and I think Geoffrey’s knowledge of USA and China markets will be invaluable. The battle for the ownership of key technologies to unlock prosperity and global power is very real and I think it will raise some vital questions from our audience at the lunch.”
Geoffrey Yu, Head of the UK Investment Office at UBS Wealth Management, says:
“I am very pleased to be given the opportunity to return to Jersey and speak at the Institute of Director’s Leader’s Lunch on 26 February. I will be delivering an insight into trade disputes with a focus on the current US/China dispute, which I hope attendees will find both relevant and informative.”
The event is open to members and non-members. Places can be booked for the lunch on 26February 2019 from 12.00-2pm at Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa via www.iod.je/events
