Getfresh.je, the online service designed to help Jersey producers easily trade with customers, is now using the location app what3words to help delivery drivers seamlessly reach their locations.
The what3words app has assigned every 3m square in the world a unique 3-word address that never changes.
For example, the centre of Liberation Square can be found at ///trend.quietly.rosier. This enables customers to choose very specific and easy to find delivery locations when completing their sale. This could mean the difference between requesting a parcel be dropped off at the front of the house, a shed in the garden or a safe-drop location without having to leave specific, or potentially complicated delivery instructions.
Technical Director for Getfresh.je, Alaistair Jerrom-Smith says:
“What3words has been on my radar for a while since I first read about their business model in the media.
“Jersey is only a small island, but it is notoriously difficult to find places without local knowledge. For a business that is relying on accurate deliveries, I felt that what3words offered the most effective method to support this.
“We have already had great feedback from the delivery drivers who are using this system and finding it much easier than other alternatives. It has definitely been the best choice for us.”
The integration of what3words is a move fully supported by Digital Jersey who are keen to encourage other businesses in Jersey to embrace this technology.
Business Development Manager at Digital Jersey, James Haywood confirms:
“It can be surprisingly tricky to navigate around Jersey, which is not helped by our unreliable address searching in Google Maps, something Digital Jersey are working with Government to overcome. The what3words app is totally free and is available in 36 languages making it easy for anyone to use.
“We are seeing retail across all sectors rapidly developing their online and digital routes to market, so it is vital that we ensure we have a fit for purpose and efficient delivery offering to accompany this.
“Digital Jersey are working with what3words to build uptake on the island, our emergency services already use the technology and now Getfresh.je have integrated it into their platform, but the opportunities in Jersey are incredibly wide. We see this app benefitting many sectors, including utilities, businesses making site or home visits and hospitality.”
Chris Sheldrick, CEO and co-founder of what3words says:
“It is incredible to see how the use of what3words has spread across Jersey, with companies like GetFresh leading the charge. There’s a huge appetite to buy from local suppliers and support small businesses, and it’s phenomenal that what3words is able to help scale up operations to assist this.”
