Island organisations can now receive free, easy-to-understand cyber security advice in their email inboxes.
Jersey Cyber Security Centre (JCSC) has launched Cyber Bytes, a free email newsletter which introduces key cyber security topics.
Each edition of Cyber Bytes will also provide steps that small businesses, charities, and individuals can take to protect themselves online. It has been developed based on feedback from Islanders over the last 18 months.
The first edition of Cyber Bytes will be sent to subscribers next week with future editions being sent every six weeks.
Deputy Moz Scott, Assistant Minister Assistant Minister for Sustainable Economic Development, said: “Islanders are rightly concerned about worsening cyber security threats, and the increasing levels of online fraud and misinformation that are impacting our day-to-day lives.
“Having asked JCSC what more we can do to support Islanders, I welcome the launch of the new Cyber Bytes newsletter to provide simple tips and advice to islanders to help keep themselves and their families safe from hackers.”
Matt Palmer (pictured), Director of JCSC said: “Cyber Bytes has been designed to overcome some of the key barriers facings Islanders who want to improve their cyber security.
“Firstly, all of us live busy lives: it’s very unlikely that many people have time to go out and learn about cyber security. Secondly, Islanders have reported feeling
overwhelmed by the volume, complexity, and ever-changing nature of cyber security.
“Finally, many may not be able to afford specialist IT support, and therefore might think there is nothing they can do.
“Cyber Bytes is for people who need a starting point for cyber. It brings advice and information to the reader, rather than making them go out and look for it. It explains key concepts and ideas in plain English. And each issue includes steps that readers can take to improve their security.
“We hope Cyber Bytes will enable more Islanders to improve their cyber security; whether that’s by taking action themselves, seeking advice from JCSC, or seeking support from one of Jersey’s cyber security suppliers. Every step taken makes the Island that little bit more secure.”
