Former British and Irish Lion, Rory Best, and ex-Springbok, Thinus Delport, treated Jersey’s junior rugby teams to a special coaching session last weekend.
The Irish and South African former Rugby Union players joined coaches from the Under 12s and Under 14s teams on the outdoor 3G pitch at the Strive Academy for a skills session, teaching the youngsters some of the techniques they used in international games.
Rory and Thinus were in Jersey as part of a series of activities organised by Santander International around the second British & Irish Lions test match against the Springboks, treating Jersey Reds club members to a pre- and post-match commentary.
James Pountney, CEO, Santander International, said: “The British & Irish Lions’ training camp helped put Jersey on the map as a training destination for rugby professionals, and subsequent events have cemented the relationship between the Island and the international sporting community.
“It has been an exciting summer for rugby enthusiasts, with Lawrence Dallaglio in Jersey for the first test match, Rory Best this week, and Rob Henderson coming for the final game. Santander International is proud to support these activities and give young Islanders the opportunity to meet and learn from all these rugby legends.”
Rob Henderson will also be visiting Jersey on Saturday 7th August to provide commentary at the final Lions’ game, culminating a summer of rugby.
