The collapse of Flybe raises serious concerns for residents travelling to and from the Channel Islands.
Chairman of the Jersey Consumer Council, Carl Walker, posted on Twitter: ‘A vital lifeline for the Channel Islands looks set to be lost. There are going to be huge implications for consumers, especially those travelling for healthcare reasons. This could be nothing short of disastrous for the islands.’
If you have booked to travel with Flybe, here’s what you need to know…
Will I lose my flight booking?
Unfortunately, yes. Flybe’s planes are grounded and its services are cancelled.
However, it is worth checking if alternative airlines are offering rescue fares. Blue Islands, Aurigny and EasyJet have announced limited-time only rescue fares.
Will I be refunded?
If you booked directly with Flybe, it is unlikely you will be offered a refund from the airline.
However, if you booked as a part of a package, you may be protected by ATOL – the Air Travel Organiser’s Licence scheme. If this is the case, you may qualify for a refund.
If you paid more than £100 on flights directly with the airline and paid by credit card, you should be able to claim a refund from your card provider under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act.
If the booking was worth less than £100, then the cardholder may be able to claim money back through the chargeback scheme.
Will my insurer cover the cost of flights and accommodation?
It depends on the type of travel insurance policy you’ve purchased. Check your policy document and speak to your provider.
