Five rising stars in Ogier’s private wealth and dispute resolution teams have been named in ePrivateClient’s prestigious Top 35 under 35 in the Channel Islands list: Richard Laignel, James Angus, Katie Baxter, Alice Bricogne and Chris Hards.
The Channel Islands Top 35 Under 35 aims to identify, recognise, introduce and promote the rising stars of the private client profession.
Factors considered during the judging process – undertaken by senior members of PAM Insight’s editorial team – include an individual’s achievements over the past 12 months and the number of nominations they received. Career progression, the quality and number of nominations and the seniority of who made the nomination and what that person said were crucial elements in determining who makes the list.
Richard Laignel has recently been promoted to Managing Associate in Ogier’s Jersey Private Wealth team. In 2017, he was awarded the prize for the highest mark in the Trusts Law paper of the Jersey law exams and he has contributed to the Encyclopaedia of Forms and Precedents. Alongside his technical excellence, Richard is described by clients as “very personable and professional, he makes complex matters simpler and more understandable”. This is also Richard’s second inclusion on the Top 35 under 35 list.
James Angus was recently promoted to Managing Associate in Ogier’s Jersey Dispute Resolution team and was also included on eprivateclient’s top 35 UK list. James’ private wealth practice at Ogier has included advising clients on Hastings-Bass applications and mistake applications and advising trustees on their duties in relation to foreign proceedings impinging on Jersey trusts. Described in client feedback as “engaging and responsive” his commitment and ability to express complex ideas clearly and accessibly has been particularly praised.
Katie Baxter is Citywealth recommended and was recently promoted to Senior Associate in Ogier’s Jersey Private Wealth team. She specialises in non-contentious trust and fiduciary law, assisting a wide range of professional trustees, family offices and private clients on all issues concerning trusts and foundations. Katie has also excelled in business development winning key new mandates for Ogier.
Alice Bricogne (photographed) was named IFC senior associate of the year – silver at the 2018 Citywealth Future Leaders Awards. She is a Senior Associate in Ogier’s Guernsey Private Wealth team. She advises both corporates and individuals on all matters relating to trusts and foundations in both contentious and non-contentious contexts. Described in client feedback as representing “the future of the industry”, this is the third time Alice has been named in one of eprivateclient’s Top 35 Under 35 lists. She has also been included in the Private Client 2018 “Ones to Watch” list.
Chris Hards is a 2018 Citywealth future leader and a Senior Associate in Ogier’s Private Wealth team in Guernsey. He advises on all aspects of trust and foundation law to individuals, fiduciaries and other service providers. His ability to provide “pragmatic value-added advice” has been praised by clients who say Chris is “a pleasure to work with”. This is the second time Chris has been included on the Top 35 Under 35 list.
Global Head of Private Wealth James Campbell said: “I am delighted to see so many of our rising stars in private wealth receiving this recognition. At Ogier we believe very strongly in supporting the development of our people and in rewarding and recognising excellence, and the results of this approach are clear to see.”
“Richard, James, Katie, Alice and Chris continue to develop very strong reputations in the industry, and their inclusion in the eprivateclient Top 35 under 35 in the Channel Islands is thoroughly well-deserved.”
