First look at re-imagined series of Bergerac

Visit Jersey and UKTV have shared a ‘first look’ at Damien Molony in the re-imagined series of Bergerac, which will air in early 2025.

Taking the leading role of Jim Bergerac is Damien Molony (pictured) (The Split, Brassic, Crashing), alongside Zoë Wanamaker (My Family, Shadow and Bone, Black Ops) as Jim’s mother-in-law Charlie Hungerford, and Philip Glenister (Steeltown Murders, Life on Mars) as Arthur Wakefield.

Bergerac is based on the original series created by Robert Banks Stewart, which starred John Nettles and ran for nine series on the BBC between 1981 and 1991. The modern re-imagining will honour the iconic detective drama, but with a contemporary twist. Unlike the original hit from the 80s, the new series will see one character-led murder mystery run across all six episodes, in place of a new storyline each episode.

Commenting on the forthcoming series, Visit Jersey CEO Tricia Warwick said: “We were delighted to welcome the cast and crew of Bergerac to Jersey this summer, and we are immensely proud of the warm welcome they received from our island community. The modern re-imagining of Bergerac presents a fantastic opportunity to showcase Jersey on the global stage, connecting with devoted fans of the original series and a new generation of viewers eager to visit the locations featured in the show.

“Beyond the excitement of filming, we have secured a highly beneficial agreement with the producers of the new Bergerac series, which will deliver lasting value to Jersey and our visitor economy. Local businesses experienced a direct boost during production, and hundreds of islanders had the opportunity to appear on-screen as supporting artists (extras). Additionally, the producers are investing in our local talent by training a cohort of Jersey apprentices, providing them with valuable skills and hands-on experience. We are also pleased to have negotiated a stake in global distribution of the show in perpetuity, ensuring long-term benefits for Jersey.”

The six-part Bergerac series (U&Original) is produced by BlackLight TV, part of Banijay UK, Jersey-based Westward Studios and is supported by Visit Jersey.
