Festive activities for children learning at home

Learning at home can be both demanding and rewarding. No-one expects you, as a parent, to replace your child’s teacher; schools will help to manage their learning.  All you can do is to seek a healthy balance between learning at home, running your home and having fun.

Parents and children can now access a range of festive activities through the States of Jersey’s Learning At Home website.  The website offers stories, recipes, arts and crafts to support parents and carers whose children may be spending more time at home over the coming weeks.

Learning At Home was originally launched in April, when the Stay Home Order meant that schools were closed to most children, who instead continued their education outside the classroom.

The Learning At Home website supplements the support offered by schools by providing parents and carers with a variety of resources and activities to support the learning of children aged 3-19, as well as advice and guidance on mental health, safety and wellbeing.
The content and structure of the website was designed based on the feedback received from 1,000 parents and carers who took part in a survey.

To date, the online resource has had almost 22,000 unique page views and has been accessed by users from 18 different jurisdictions around the world.

Minister for Education, Senator Tracey Vallois, said: “Schools have done outstanding work in making sure that children can continue their education from home. At the same time, many parents have been creative and dedicated in supporting their children when they are learning from home.

“These new Christmas-themed additions will give parents lots of activities to celebrate the festive season with their children, while also supporting their education. I’d like to thank the Learning At Home team for putting together this important additional resource.”
