Exciting day at de Putron Challenge inter-island final
Share on LinkedInTwitterFacebookEmail

The de Putron Challenge inter-island final returned yesterday with Forest Primary School winning the year six final and Victoria College taking home the year eight trophy.

The de Putron Challenge aims to showcase the brightest young minds in Guernsey and Jersey. The Challenge brings together year six and year eight pupils to test their general knowledge, maths and creative thinking skills.

The inter-island event was virtual this year, having been rescheduled from earlier in the year when the Guernsey schools were unable to travel to Jersey due to foggy conditions in the islands. The Guernsey schools along with quizmaster John Fernandez from BBC Guernsey gathered at Beau Sejour with a live video link connecting them to the Jersey schools and quizmaster Charlie McArdle from BBC Jersey at The Royal Jersey Showground.

Forest Primary School won the year six final after beating Jersey College Preparatory by 6 points and scoring 26 overall.

Joseph du Plessis, one of the team members from Forest Primary School in year six, said: “I didn’t think that we would get to the inter-island final, but I’m so happy that we have won this year’s challenge. I’m very happy about our performance today, and it’s been such a fun event to take part in.”

Later in the day, Victoria College and Les Beaucamps High School went head-to-head in the year 8 final for the trophy. It was a tough challenge and both teams competed well, but Victoria College just gained an edge to win overall with 31 points to Les Beaucamps High School’s 27 points.

Hayley de Putron, a Trustee of the Ana Leaf Foundation and founder of the de Putron Challenge, said: “Congratulations to Forest Primary School and Victoria College for winning the inter-island final in their respective year groups. All of the teams who competed today performed to such a high standard, and they should all be extremely proud of themselves. Thank you to everyone who was involved in another fantastic de Putron Challenge! I look forward to what is to come next year.”
