Celebrate, Learn, and Protect with Activities Ranging from School Workshops to Beach Cleanups Featuring Special Guest, Astronaut Nicole Stott.

This year’s World Ocean Week (WOW) in Jersey promises an exhilarating array of events, combining education, conservation, and celebration of our oceans. Organised by Ocean Culture Life (OCL), the week-long festivity is anchored around World Oceans Day, emphasising not just appreciation but active participation in ocean conservation.

From June 4th to 9th, locals and visitors alike will have the unique opportunity to engage in activities designed to enhance ocean literacy and inspire actionable change. Highlights of the week include educational workshops for schools, an exclusive book signing with astronaut turned aquanaut Nicole Stott, interactive live-stream classes, and the impactful Big Ocean Clean Up.

“World Ocean Week is our annual call to action to celebrate and protect our beloved blue planet. This year, we’re excited to expand our reach and deepen our impact, thanks to the continued support from our community and long standing partners Mourant, as well as our programme sponsors Jersey Community Foundation, One Foundation and Condor Ferries,” said Tamsin Raine, founder of OCL and WOW programme lead.

Daniel Birtwistle, Managing Partner of the Mourant Jersey office, added: “As part of our firm’s continued focus on environmental sustainability, we recognise the critical role the ocean plays in our lives and the importance of protecting it. I am delighted to confirm that Mourant is maintaining its partnership with OCL for the third year running. OCL remain committed to deepening public understanding of the ocean’s issues and challenges, and we look forward to this series of events pivoting around World Ocean Week this summer, which include valuable education programmes to help our younger generation understand the importance of marine conservation.”

The 2024 celebrations are set to build on the successes of previous years, aiming to increase public engagement and encourage support for sustainable ocean initiatives. Events are strategically spread across the island to foster a broad-based involvement.
