Weekender event with Alex James’ Britpop Classical show
Weekender has announced its return this September with an expanded multi-day format, opening with a headline performance from Blur bassist Alex James and his Britpop Classical show.
Taking place on Friday 11 September, the opening night will feature a 38-piece live orchestra performing Britpop tracks associated with bands including Blur, Oasis, Pulp, Supergrass and The Verve, alongside a line-up of guest vocalists. Additional supporting acts are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
The Friday launch event will be followed by a full day of performances on Saturday 12 September, with organisers promising a programme of main stage artists as part of the festival’s wider return.
Alex James said: “Jersey! Alex James from BLUR here. I am so excited to announce that I’m bringing my Britpop Classical to the Weekender on Friday, September 11th. We’re taking the biggest anthems of a generation – Blur, Oasis, Pulp, Supergrass, The Verve and more – and we’re blowing them up with a full 38-piece orchestra and special guest vocalists. It’s loud, it’s cinematic, and it’s going to be legendary.”
Festival organiser Warren Le Sueur said the decision to split the event across Friday and Saturday would allow organisers to create “two totally unique” experiences.
“Bringing Britpop Classical to Jersey is going to be electric,” he said. “This isn’t just a trip down memory lane – it’s a massive, symphonic masterpiece you have to see to believe.”
