Tour de Jersey
One of Jersey’s biggest cycling events is back this year with some fun new challenges!
Tour de Jersey will now feature two surprise challenges – King of the Mountain and Stretch Your Legs.
King of the Mountain is an uphill challenge, where somewhere along the route there’ll be flags marking the start and finish of the mystery hill – all tracked on Strava (cyclists will have to activate it for the event). Stretch Your Legs is a speedy challenge – seeing how fast you can get those wheels spinning! Like the other challenge, there’ll be flags marking the start and finish of this surprise section and it’ll be automatically tracked on Strava.
We also have the Mourant Corporate Cup – thanks to our Tour de Jersey sponsors – where teams of three take turns as a relay in the Full Tour (100km route) in the bid to win the cup (and a few goodies too!)
The event is on Sunday 5 July setting off from Albert Pier and includes a range of courses to suit all levels and abilities. Cyclists can choose from the 7km Mini Tour (perfect for families) right up to the 100km Full Tour. Sign up fees vary depending on which route you choose and your age – and participants are encouraged to raise at least £50 in sponsorship.
Anya Nightingale-Bataille, Events and Fundraising Officer, said: “It’s been great working closely with Mourant, 3D Events, and Cog and Sprocket to make this Tour de Jersey better than ever and bring in some exciting new challenges. It’s such a fun event for all ages to take part in, and lovely for us to see everyone get stuck in and have a brilliant day. On top of that, it helps raise vital funds for Hospice to continue to care for our community. Last year, we raised more than £16,000 – that covers three days of our community nurse team supporting people at home, in residential settings, and at the hospital.”
Mike Jones, Global Managing Director of Mourant Consulting, said: “This is the third year that Mourant has supported Tour de Jersey. Having been a keen participant myself for many years, I can attest to what a fantastic event it is. The beauty of Tour de Jersey lies in its wide-ranging appeal, with routes catered for Jersey’s keen cycling community, challenges for those who want to test themselves, as well as options for families looking to enjoy a fun and healthy day out. At Mourant, we believe in the power of community, and Tour de Jersey allows people from across the Island to come together to support Jersey Hospice Care, which continues to provide such an important service to so many Islanders and their families.”
