The Vale Earthlings Ball

One last party to round off the 50th anniversary – but at least this one is indoors!

We are super excited to be hosting the Vale Earthlings Ball in a few weeks at St James. For one night only, don your most extravagant extra-terrestrial garbs and come along to party VEF style on the 16th October.

Alien dress-up is encouraged but anything fun or spacey will do (if you can). We would love to see what sparkly, colourful and outright bonkers things you all have to make the hall shine!

Headlining this party are the incredible HENGE! Straight from outer space to Guernsey, HENGE are bringing you music from distant planets. These extra-terrestrial joymongers have been delighting audiences in the UK and Europe since they landed on Planet Earth ten years ago. Their scintillating live performances earned them ‘Best Live Act’ at the Independent Festival Awards and they have since cemented their reputation with four acclaimed albums, numerous tours and regular main-stage festival appearances.

Their music escapes definition, but occupies a space between rave and prog rock that nobody knew existed. It is energetic, subversive and invigoratingly playful, jovially going ‘where no one has gone before’. Ultimately, HENGE are spreading a message of hope which leaves audiences feeling amused and uplifted in equal measures.

Before that, we have 2 incredible local acts that we are very excited to see again… Straight off the back of their VEF 50th anniversary performance, we are so pleased to have Edith’s Head back playing for us! This band are steeped in VEF history as founder Errol Groves was their much beloved percussionist – so what an amazing opportunity to see some of the people who he performed with.

Expect funky tunes with infectious grooves that will get you dancing, this lot are not to be missed.

To get you all dancing, we welcome Yas back to the stage! Yas is a five-piece Moroccan fusion band that brings together the hypnotic rhythms of Gnawa with the energy and groove of Western musical traditions. Rooted in the driving pulse of West African and North African rhythms, their sound blends funk, blues, rock and subtle dance influences into a vibrant, contemporary musical journey.

At the heart of Yas is the rich Gnawa tradition of call-and-response vocals in Arabic, interwoven with soaring melodies, infectious grooves and deep, trance-like rhythms.

Drawing on centuries-old musical heritage while embracing modern influences, the band creates performances that are both uplifting and immersive, inviting audiences to move, connect and celebrate across cultures.

Come and dance with us as we spend the night celebrating our 50th anniversary at one last big party that can’t be ruined by the weather. The Vale Earthlings Ball is on Friday 16th October from 7pm at St James. Get your tickets now from stjames.gg or find the ticket link through our Facebook event!
