The Sparky Parkies’ Dirty Weekend!
Local music charity Aureole Music and Parkinson’s Jersey are collaborating to present a heartwarming Valentine’s celebration for their community singing group, the Sparky Parkies.
The event, cheekily titled ‘The Sparky Parkies’ Dirty Weekend!’, promises an unforgettable evening of love, laughter, and music.
The Sparky Parkies are currently rehearsing for their cabaret debut, which will take place on February 14th at the accessible Maison des Landes Hotel in St. Ouen’s. The event will include an overnight stay, making it an ideal retreat for performers, friends, carers, and supporters.
Attendees will enjoy afternoon tea, a three-course Valentine’s dinner, a lively cabaret performance, and breakfast the following morning. Guests will also have access to the hotel’s accessible pool, offering a perfect opportunity to relax and recharge.
The evening’s entertainment will feature the Sparky Parkies themselves, presenting a showcase of songs, poetry, and jokes all centered around love. Adding to the excitement, professional singer Michael Hutchings will perform a selection of romantic classics alongside the group.
The Sparky Parkies is a vibrant community group that meets every Friday to sing and engage in speech tasks designed specifically for people living with Parkinson’s. With the support of skilled musicians and a speech and language therapist, the group works to counteract the vocal challenges that often accompany the condition. Past events have included a sea shanty expedition across the bay and a spirited pantomime performance, bringing joy and confidence to participants and audiences alike.
This Valentine’s event is another shining example of how Aureole Music and Parkinson’s Jersey are making a meaningful impact in the community.
Janine Coxshall, Chair of Parkinsons Jersey said: “Our Friday sessions are the highlight of our week, with lots of fun and laughter. and they put a sparkle in the lives of those living with Parkinson’s and their partners/family members who accompany them. It is a brilliant collaboration and we have great tutors leading the class.”
Nicki Kennedy, Chair of Aureole Music Charity said: “There is so much fun, laughter and friendship in our group, that following our successful pantomime a year ago, we knew we had to keep that performance momentum going. There are great challenges for people living with Parkinsons and for their carers, but on February 14th all of our group will be just having a great time and enjoying a fabulous night of love and friendship.”
