The Channel Islands Contemporary Art Show

ArtHouse Jersey and Art for Guernsey have announced the second edition of The Channel Islands Contemporary Art Show following the inaugural joint show in 2024.

The show returns with an exciting gathering of seventeen artists from the Channel Islands, Brittany, and the UK. Bringing together bold sculpture, richly layered painting, photography, and compelling digital art, the exhibition offers fresh and thought-provoking perspectives on island life, community, and connection.

Each artist draws on personal experience and place, responding to the unique landscapes and cultural histories of the Channel Islands while opening up new ways of seeing, feeling, and imagining their future. This dynamic showcase celebrates creativity across borders and invites audiences to engage with the vibrant artistic voices shaping the region today.

The work will be showcased first at ArtHouse Jersey at Capital House and then tour to Art for Guernsey in St Peter Port in autumn 2026.

Participating artists include: Charlie Buchanan, Ruby Butler, Hayley Gibault, Vincent Girard, Victor Guerin, Helen Glencross, Gabrielle Herveet, Louise London, Emilie Knight, Malgorzata Krzysztofik, Vincent Malassis, Charlie McFarley, Toby Rainbird, Nicole Sheppard, Bridget Spinney, India Sylvester, Iwan Warnet.

The Channel Islands Contemporary Art Show is produced by ArtHouse Jersey and Art for Guernsey in association with Passerelle Centre d’Art Contemporain in Brest, Brittany.

Head of Programme for ArtHouse Jersey, James Tyson, said: “This second edition of The Channel Islands Contemporary Art Show promises to bring into focus different experiences of the Channel Islands – from both familiar landscapes to the more interior, emotional spaces of feeling, cultural hybridity and how this can be translated into complex, layered and extraordinary paintings, sculptures and drawings. It’s wonderful to have this exhibition bring together such a diversity of voices including a new generation of artists from the Channel Islands and Brittany. This exchange across our region is also thanks to our partners at Art for Guernsey and Passerelle in Brest. With every artist and in every artwork there is a spirit of experiment and artistic rigour and we look forward very much to opening the show this spring.”

Founder and Chairman for Art for Guernsey, David Ummels, said: “We are so excited yet again to collaborate with our friends of ArtHouse Jersey for the curating and the hosting of this exceptional bi-annual touring exhibition. This is the second edition of the Channel Islands Contemporary Art Show (CICAS) and this time we also had the pleasure to have Passerelle Centre d’Art Contemporain, from Brest (France) as a partner. CICAS will challenge perceptions, stimulate fresh thinking and create an inspiring platform for Channel Islands artists, who will be exhibiting shoulder to shoulder with international peers of the highest calibre. By exposing local audiences to ambitious, cutting-edge contemporary work, the exhibition will help to foster an open-minded, confident and culturally vibrant community and I can’t wait to see it in the flesh.”

Director of Passerelle Centre d’Art Contemporary, Loïc Le Gall, said: “Passerelle is a non-profit contemporary art space, as well as a centre for education and cultural events, located in Brest, Brittany. We are delighted to be working for the first time with ArtHouse Jersey and Art for Guernsey on this programme of exhibitions and exchanges between our regions, which share such strong ties. This exhibition in St Helier is both a wonderful meeting point for artists from the Channel Islands and Brittany, and a window onto art in the making for the public. This joyful, high-quality and abundant moment has been developed over several months in close collaboration with the artists. Our cooperation with ArtHouse Jersey is expanding this year through a cross-residency project for visual artists, encouraging the circulation of ideas, aesthetics and creative practice. Passerelle would like to thank the exhibiting artists and our partners at ArtHouse Jersey and Art for Guernsey for this wonderful collaboration.“
