Summer Holiday Art Club – Week 2

The Harbour Gallery Jersey is running a programme of children’s art workshops during the summer holidays.

Week two takes place from Monday 27 to Friday 31 July, with morning sessions from 10am to noon and afternoon sessions from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

The programme includes activities for children from around age five or six up to 13, although the age range varies between workshops. Parents may attend with younger children where indicated.

On Monday morning, children aged eight and over can make CD sun catchers with Jo Alm and Bastiman. The afternoon session, led by Pat Robson, is for children aged seven and over and will focus on painting mandala-style patterns on large vinyl records, as well as designing and painting mugs and plates.

Tuesday morning’s workshop, led by illustrator Jamie Willow, gives children aged six and over the chance to design their own comic book. Participants will develop a story idea, create characters and learn how to turn their ideas into a finished comic book page.

The Tuesday afternoon workshop, with Jo Alm and Bastiman, will involve bubble art and shaving foam marbling and is suitable for children aged six and over.

On Wednesday morning, Jamie Willow will lead a summer landscape collage workshop using coloured papers, textures and mixed media techniques.

The afternoon session will be led by Corey Ceccarelli and will focus on biomaterial alchemy and art inspired by nature. Children aged eight and over will work with seaweed-based biomaterials while learning about sustainable design and ecological innovation.

Thursday morning’s workshop, with Jo Alm and Bastiman, will involve making a wizard or witch’s wand and is suitable for children aged eight and over.

On Thursday afternoon, Jamie Willow will lead an ocean-themed story and creative art workshop based on the children’s book Our Oceans, A Blue Adventure. The session is for children aged five or six, with parents, up to age eight. Participants will create colourful underwater scenes and each child will take home a copy of the book.

Friday morning’s workshop, led by Will Bertram, will focus on cave-drawing selfies using chalk, charcoal and paint, inspired by cave paintings and mark making.

The Friday afternoon session, led by Pat Robson, will involve creating an A3 picture on canvas board using ceramic pieces, sea glass and mosaic tesserae. This session is now fully booked.

Spaces remain available on the other week two workshops, although only two places remain for Thursday afternoon.

Sessions cost £20, including materials. Each child will also receive a pack of drawing pencils and a sketchbook. Children who attended St Helier Primary School can book sessions for £10, supported by the Bosdet Foundation.

Parents are asked to bring children to the workspace, collect them from the same location and complete a registration form before the session. The gallery recommends arriving 10 minutes early. Suitable clothing should be worn, as acrylic paint may be used.
