Shore to field exhibition: Andrea McVeigh
Come to the Harbour Galery to view Andrea McVeigh’s large charcoal drawings on canvas and sculptures.
Andrea explained: “My work is deeply influenced by the environment and culture that has shaped me. Growing up in communist East Berlin, I was immersed in a society where all art forms were celebrated. This environment ignited my early passion for art.
“Following the fall of the Berlin Wall, I had the opportunity to travel extensively, experiencing the art and culture of the Middle East, Africa, and America. These experiences continue to shape my artistic expression.
“Today, my work draws inspiration from current and historical figures, vintage toys, and wildlife. After moving to Jersey, I found further inspiration in the countryside alongside the sea, mainly through the renowned Jersey cows grazing beside the sweeping coastal landscape.
“The landscapes of Jersey, both countryside and coastal, are the main inspiration for my artwork. I focus on capturing the essence of the iconic Jersey cows, the sea, and the land’s natural beauty.
“My primary mediums are charcoal, chosen for its expressive versatility, and clay, which I use to create bronze sculptures that reflect the natural world. Through my art, I aim to evoke a sense of connection to the environment, portraying the beauty and mood of the landscapes surrounding me.
